About Railway 200 Walk around Pillgwenlly
Join members of Monmouthshire Railway Society and the Newport Transporter Bridge team for a fascinating journey into Newport’s railway past!
Marking Railway 200, a guided walk tracing Newport’s historic railway network in the City Centre and Pillgwenlly.
Starting at the City Centre bank of the River Usk, we trace the old Sirhowy tramroad route that evolved into Cardiff Rd, Kingsway, and George St, before exploring the maze of lines in the Dock St / Commercial Rd area. Each participant will receive photos and maps documenting the various locations visited.
The walk will start from Newport Bus Station and is about 2 miles in length, entirely flat and taken at a slow walking pace, with frequent stops to explain each location’s past railway infrastructure.
