About Mellt + Support
Rhys-James and Walker were ten years old when they started jamming together in their primary school changing rooms back in Aberystwyth. They’ve played together ever since, weathering every adolescent change in taste and personality, always coming back to their shared obsession with music. They gigged and wrote songs all through secondary school, while their best friend Hodges cheered them on from the sidelines. When they needed a new drummer, they taught him to play drums.
The trio released their first EP Cysgod Cyfarwydd in 2014. The following year they received Launchpad Funding from BBC Horizons, enabling them to play festivals all around Wales and England and to record a Radio Wales session at the famous Maida Vale Studios — all while they were still studying for their A-Levels. They moved to Cardiff in 2016, where they continued their ascent, immersing themselves in the city’s buzzing scene. Then came Mae’n Hawdd Pan Ti’n Ifanc, which alongside the aforementioned accolades it received led to slots at Radio 1 Biggest Weekend, The Great Escape and Green Man among others.
With all that in mind, you could forgive Mellt if they felt some pressure to get this follow-up right, but life gave them some time to knuckle down and work on it when the pandemic began in early 2020. They were all living together in a Cardiff house.
