About "Moon, Sun, and Sea: Tidal Peculiarities of Newport"

Join the Transporter Bridge Team for our second 'Bridge Talk' of 2026! Dominic Haynes reveals the unique impact of the tide in Newport.

Dr Dominic Hames is a Senior Lecturer in the Civil Engineering cluster at the University of the West of England (UWE) and has over 35 years of experience in flood and coastal defence, working across both consultancy and academia. As a consultant, Dominic has contributed to many of the UK’s major coastal projects, including Dawlish, Hinkley Point C and played a major role in the UK’s first Climate Change Risk Assessment, serving as lead or co author on several key reports, including the main Evidence Report presented to Parliament in 2012.

Born and raised in Newport, Dominic is a passionate Newportonian and has given several talks in recent years on notable events from the city’s past. This, however, is his first talk in Newport focusing on his professional field of expertise and is sure to be a fascinating presentation!

Please note that this presentation is part of our 'Bridge Talks' programme and not necessarily about bridges.
