About Lantern Parade at Newport Wetlands

Experience the Wetlands in a whole new light this Christmas with our first ever lantern parade including festive activities for all the family. There will be music and arts and crafts for you to enjoy before we set off for the parade around 7pm. The event begins at 5pm with decorating lanterns, making Christmas tree decorations, building a wooden reindeer, storytelling around a firepit (weather depending) and festive food.

Our shop will be open for late night Christmas shopping and a choice of homemade festive food will be on offer for you to buy. The Parade will begin from the visitor centre at 7pm and we will walk up to the lighthouse and around the wetland experience trail. The walk will last roughly 1 hour.

Please look at our lantern building workshops on the 10th December if you wish to make one for the event or we encourage you to build your very own and bring it along with you! There will be a prize for the best lantern on the night! There may be some available on the night to buy and decorate if there are spares from the workshop.

Please no dogs on this event and RSPB Non members will require a car park token to leave. All children must be supervised by an adult at all times. The lantern parade element of this event may be postponed if weather conditions are not suitable.

Our lanterns will be lit with battery operated fairy lights, no naked flames will be allowed on site. If you make and bring your own lantern please bring your own battery lights.
