About Crossing the Water from Bridge to Bridget: Ffraid and the February landscape
Our popular ‘Bridge Walks’ programme continues with a westward winter wander along the Severn Estuary – departing from one water crossing icon to discover the origins of another!
This time of year is the season of St Bride/Bridget/Ffraid, and the first inklings that winter may soon be drawing to a close…
On this approximately 5 mile walk with Gwent storyteller Christine Watkins, we will hear traditional pagan, Christian and folk stories of this ‘in-between’ season and the saint who has such strong associations with our rivers and coasts.
We will walk from our iconic Newport Transporter Bridge to the seawall, then west to Llansanffraid Gwynllwg /St Bride’s Wentlooge where a warm drink awaits us and we will close with a traditional candle-lighting ceremony before returning by minibus to the Bridge.
BOOKING REQUIRED: This is a free event but donations are always appreciated for our Bridge project!
Meet at Mill Parade car park opposite the Transporter Bridge Visitor Centre construction site. There is free parking on the streets around the Car Park.
