About Bridge Talk: 'The Ghosts of Gwent'
BOOKING ESSETIAL FOR THIS EVENT!
While our exciting new visitor centre is being constructed, we continue to bring you our popular Newport Transporter Bridge Project 'Bridge Talks' from Newport Museum and Arts Gallery!
Ghost stories around the fire have long been a tradition around the Festive Season, and we're carrying on that theme with our final Newport Transporter Bridge Project Bridge Talk of 2024!
Join local author, Alan Roderick, as he dips into his book; 'The Ghosts of Gwent' to reveal some of the ghosts who have haunted our ancestors.
Headless horsewomen, phantom stagecoaches and other worldly animals are just some of the strange phenomena that haunt the land of Gwent. Hitchhikers vanish, never to be seen again, mysterious footsteps are heard, apparitions walk the walls of ancient castles. From the noblest stately home to the humblest council house, nowhere is safe. Bustling towns and sleepy villages, historic inn and rural farmhouse, modern hospital and medieval church tower — all bear the marks of ghostly influence!
You will never see our county of Gwent in the same light again...
Alan Roderick has written some twelve non-fiction books on Newport and Gwent including The Ghosts of Gwent which was first published in 1987 and reprinted in 1993. He has also written Astrid Investigates, The Complete Astrid Price Short Stories and Astrid and the Golden Lovespoons and Astrid and the Girl in the Tangerine Dress, two novels featuring his fictional Welsh private detective. He has also published three volumes of poetry: Selected Poems, Twelve Days In Intensive Care and After You’d Gone. Since November, 2013 he has organised monthly poetry nights at the Murenger House in Newport and been Chairman of the Cwtsh Community & Arts Centre at the Handpost, Newport.
