About Booming Bitterns and Calling Cuckoos: Guided Walk at Newport Wetlands
Join us at RSPB Newport Wetlands for a guided walk focusing on two of our most iconic birds.
We’ll begin with a short 10-minute introduction, where your guide will share a little about the reserve and help you recognise the distinctive calls of the elusive Bittern and the returning Cuckoo. We’ll then head out onto the reserve for a guided walk through the reedbeds and wetland trails, listening for the deep, resonant boom of a bittern and the familiar call of a cuckoo carrying across the landscape. Your guide will share tips on how to listen for and spot these elusive birds while explaining why the wetlands here are so important for them. Along the way we’ll also keep an eye out for other birds and wildlife that thrive in this special habitat.
This two-hour guided walk offers a chance to experience the sounds of spring while discovering more about two of the reserve’s most iconic species.
Duration: Approximately 2 hours.
Please bring: Binoculars if you have them, weather-appropriate clothing, and sturdy footwear.
Accessibility: Fully Accessible.
