About Newport Seafarers Summer Walking Tour

Fancy stretching your sea legs and discovering something new about Newport's maritime history? Join us on a voyage of discovery, celebrating Newport's Nautical heroes and heroines with Antarctic stowaways, heroic rescuers, Hollywood liberties, pioneering women and even rogue torpedoes - uncover their stories!

In the company of local historian and author Andrew Hemmings, you’ll join the Newport Transporter Bridge Team on our popular journey exploring Newport around the Bridge, uncovering the fascinating tales of 13 key people and intriguing incidents...

Following in the footsteps of a century of countless sailors, we’ll be commencing our voyage of discovery from near Newport Docks, under the shadow of our iconic 118-year-old landmark, at the brand new Newport Transporter Bridge Visitor Centre. Here, you can learn about the current Bridge restoration project, plus an exclusive opportunity to explore inside the centre, discovering the story of our Bridge, and watch the short film; 'Newport 1914-1918' before venturing out on this 5-mile circular walk visiting six locations.

There will also be an opportunity to purchase copies of Andrew's book: 'Secret Newport' - an ideal gift!

This walk will include two cafe stops, so plenty of opportunity to purchase refreshments.
