Newport Rising Festival 2024 is back, celebrating the rich history and enduring legacy of the Chartists with a weekend full of engaging and thought-provoking events. The festival’s centrepiece is the iconic torchlit march on the evening of 2nd November, retracing the final steps of the Chartists down Stow Hill to Westgate Square.

Ahead of the torchlit march on the 2nd November, join us for the Annual Chartist Convention at Newport Cathedral featuring expert academic and historical presentations and discussion.

Also on the 2nd November at The Corn Exchange a Radical Book Fair will take place featuring stalls, book sales, zines, print and stickers plus workshops and talks.

Following the torchlit march, live music will take place at the Corn Exchange and The CAB with lineup and tickets TBA and available via www.newportrising.co.uk

Leading up to the march, the festival will feature a guided walk to the historic Chartist Caves, offering a unique insight into the places that played a crucial role in the Chartist movement. The weekend will also include live music, film screenings, and other cultural events, all celebrating Newport’s vital role in the fight for democracy.

The annual commemoration of the Newport Rising will take place on 4th November, honouring the sacrifices made by the Chartists 185 years ago.
