About More than Dragons and Daffs

Returning for a second year, ‘More than Dragons and Daffs’ will be a celebration of Wales, Welsh culture, and being Welsh in Newport, and showcase that Wales is more than just daffodils and dragons.

The free event, from 2-8pm on Sunday 1 March will kick-off with a short parade outside the Riverfront and the Wave sculpture.

After the parade, the main event will be taking place in the Riverfront, featuring a range of musical performances and workshops, including:

• musical performances from Ify Iwobi, Wade Collymore, Dabs, Ragsy, Kat Rees, Operasonic, Cerys Rees, and more
• family craft workshops from Lucilla Jones, and a family arts and crafts zone
• musical workshops from Gwent Music, Operasonic, Celtic Community Group
• storytelling, Bollywood movement, songwriting sessions and performances from Amruta and Ayan community choir

As part of this year’s event, pupils in Newport schools have been invited to enter a creative competition around the theme of ‘Newport through my eyes’.

Entries to the competition can be in poetry or art form, and the best entries from three age group categories will be on display at the event.

The event has been supported by funding from the Welsh government through their St David’s Day 2026 Pilot Support Fund.
