About Make a Film in a Week
Reality Theatre
Learn how to make a film over seven days with a range of activities and workshops. At the end of the week, you’ll have made your own short film with the help of industry professionals.
You don’t need to attend every session, just book the workshops that seem most interesting to you.
> Workshop 1: From Idea to Screen
Tuesday 27th August
An introduction to what is involved in making a short film, including essential job roles.
> Workshop 2a: Sound Recording
Wednesday 28th August (Morning)
Learn why sound is important, the terminology used, and the different types of sound, e.g. speech/dialogue, music and noise effects, and diegetic and non-diegetic sound.
> Workshop 2b: Storyboards & Shot Lists
Wednesday 28th August (Afternoon)
An introduction to creating a storyboard and the how to make a shot list, with examples and templates.
> Workshop 3: Art Department
Thursday 29th August
Start with breaking down the script for the art department, before planning locations, sets, props and costumes.
> Workshop 4: Filming & Lighting
Friday 30th August
Learn the basics of lighting and shooting a film, including experimenting with different angles and frames.
> Workshop 5: Bringing it All Together
Saturday 31st August
A busy day making sure everything and everyone is ready for the shoot! You’ll prepare the sets, props and costumes, and learn about Health & Safety on set.
> Workshop 6: The Shoot
Sunday 1st September
A full day of shooting the film that’s been developed over the past week.
> Workshop 7: The Edit
Monday 2nd September
Learn how to edit a film as the editor cuts this one together.
