About LUNCHTIME CONCERT SAMARPAN PRESENTS: Traditional Sitarist Jonathan Mayer

Samarpan presents: Lunchtime Concert with Jonathan Mayer

Samarpan is a Wales-based organisation dedicated to creating cultural exchange through Indian classical performing arts through its three strands of Education, performance and outreach. Since its beginnings, Samarpan has been working to bring artists, teachers, students and audiences together, creating opportunities to experience, learn and celebrate the richness and diversity of Indian performing arts. Through regular classes, workshops, performances, festivals and commission works, Samarpan aims to make Indian classical arts accessible to a wide range of audiences while creating platforms for artists to share their work.

We are delighted to present a special Lunchtime Concert featuring the internationally acclaimed sitarist Jonathan Mayer, accompanied by the talented Janan Sathiendran on tabla.

Jonathan Mayer is an accomplished sitarist and composer whose work brings together the rich traditions of Indian classical music with a contemporary and innovative approach. His performances explore the expressive possibilities of the sitar, creating music that is both deeply rooted in tradition and engaging for modern audiences. He will be joined by Janan Sathiendran on tabla, whose rhythmic artistry will complement the melodic depth of the sitar.

This intimate lunchtime performance offers audiences an opportunity to experience the beauty, subtlety and spontaneity of Indian classical music in a relaxed setting. The concert will explore the intricate relationship between melody and rhythm, allowing audiences to experience the dialogue between sitar and tabla and the improvisational nature of the tradition.
