About Babylon - Screening & discussion
Set within the world of sound system culture, Babylon follows Blue, a young Black man navigating racism, police harassment, unemployment, and generational conflict. Music becomes both a refuge and a form of resistance as he prepares for a crucial sound clash against a rival crew.
Rated for ages 15+ and running at 95 minutes, the film offers a raw and immersive portrait of Black British life rarely seen on screen at the time and still urgently relevant today. Its pulsating soundtrack and street level realism make it as much a cultural document as a narrative film.
Babylon confronts institutional racism head on while celebrating community, creativity, and collective power through music.
After the screening, audiences are invited to join an optional post film chat at Circle Screening to explore the film’s legacy and continued cultural impact.
